Easter Essentials (March 2016 Update)

EASTER ESSENTIALS
Easter is this weekend - let us help with dinner! We still have a great selection of HAMS to choose from, along with LEG OF LAMB and RACK OF LAMB. We also have our PASTURED EGGS available for traditional deviled eggs or even for coloring. (Yes! You can dye brown eggs.) Fresh eggs can sometimes be difficult to peel when hard-boiling, but we love this method and have found it works well: Perfect Easy-Peel Hard-Boiled Eggs

All cuts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Shop early for the best selection!
THURSDAY 2:00-5:30PM
SATURDAY 9:00AM-12:00PM

CHICKEN IN STOCK!
We have the following available again beginning Thursday:
Whole Chickens
Chicken Feet
Chicken Liver & Heart
Chicken Necks

Cut-ups and bones will arrive this summer.

NATIONAL PIG DAY
Yes, there is actually a holiday for our favorite swine friends. We celebrated with the KSL News Morning show when Hard Workin' Haley stopped in to get a first-hand look at our pigs. Although they were a little reluctant at first (it was early & they love their sleep), they perked up when Shayn arrived with breakfast. You can check out one of the spots at the following link and watch Farmer Shayn's best pig impersonation (he's a good sport!).

DAIRY UPDATE
The barn & milk parlor are completed, we're installing the last of the milking equipment we need, and the cows are on their way. We still have two inspections to pass before we can sell milk. Depending on schedules, we could be ready to go in just two weeks. We will post an update when we're officially licensed.

BULK ORDERS
Our next bulk orders will be available APRIL 14 & 16. Deposits are due THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 26! Corriente & Angus beef, pork, lamb and Alaskan Salmon are all currently available. Do you want to try our meat before you make a big purchase? Stop by our farm store this weekend and pick up some separate cuts.

WORK & PLAY
Last weekend we started preparing the fields for spring planting. Farmer Shayn found a creative way to combine work & play with an old sled and some baling twine. Our boys took turns for two hours gliding through the fresh dirt. We love the sounds & the smells of tilling the earth this time of the year. (Thanks to Chase, Shayn's brother, and the horses for their hard work & help.)

Easter Hams in Stock (February 2016 Update)

EASTER DINNER
Easter will be here soon and we can help with your dinner traditions! We currently have HAMS available! Our delicious, pastured pork is non-GMO and raised without antibiotics or added hormones. We've also restocked our LEG OF LAMB and RACK OF LAMB which have a wonderful, mild flavor from our grass-fed lambs.

All cuts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Shop early for the best selection!

GRASS-FED GOAT
What's for dinner tonight? We recently had fajitas using our goat meat! Did you know we sell goat? This grass-fed meat has a unique, delicious flavor. We carry everything from chops to riblets in our store - try it sometime!

DAIRY UPDATE
We're close! This is a look inside. The walls to the lower left are the actual milk parlor which includes two rooms. Above is a hay loft and the remainder is a loafing shed for the cows.
We're currently figuring out a septic permit between the city & county. Also this week it's mud & tape on the drywall inside the parlor. As soon as the walls are done we can finish electrical & plumbing & start moving equipment in, followed by a few final inspections for approval. We hope to be ready in a few weeks and we'll continue to post updates as we go.

BULK ORDERS
Our next bulk orders will be available APRIL 14 & 16. Deposits are due SATURDAY, MARCH 26! Corriente & Angus beef, pork, lamb and Alaskan Salmon are all currently available. Do you want to try our meat before you make a big purchase? Stop by our farm store this weekend and pick up some separate cuts.

CHEESE-WOOD?
According to this article, many grated cheeses have higher levels of wood pulp than currently allowed by the FDA. So you could eat cheese-wood, or you could eat fresh, healthy, REAL raw milk cheese you grated yourself. Pick up a block of amazing raw milk cheese at our farm and say no to the fake stuff!

The Parmesan Cheese You Sprinkle on Your Penne Could Be Wood

ENJOYING THE SUNSHINE!
Our afternoon stroll on the farm peaked this big guy's curiosity. King is one of our two draft horses. Incredibly strong and just as gentle.

Food Freedom in Utah (January 2016 Update)

FOOD FREEDOM ACT - YOU CAN HELP!
Over the past few months, we have been working with Representative Marc Roberts and several other local farmers & small food producers in Utah on a proposed bill for this year's legislative session. HB 144, known as the Food Freedom Act, restores the right to consumers to purchase or sell local food without state government oversight. It would give consumers greater access and ability to purchase fresh local homemade foods, and will encourage the expansion of agricultural sales by farmers markets, ranches, farms, CSA’s, and home based producers. HB 144 is proposed by Representative Marc Roberts and will be heard in the upcoming session. There will be a lot of opposition so we need all the support we can find to help get the bill passed! Please help us spread the word. Share on social media, email your friends, and encourage others to join us!

GOODBYE MAGGIE
Earlier this week we had to say goodbye to our sweet Maggie. She was outside working with Shayn, and as she went to jump down from a trailer, for some reason she made a misstep and broke her leg. After x-rays, our vet told us it would require a complicated surgery to repair, and even then he wasn't sure if it would completely heal. A heartbreaking decision to make, we decided it was best to let her go.

She was such a wonderful dog. She was Shayn's "right-hand man", always around keeping an eye on things. She was kind & gentle, not only with our kids but with our animals too. She had a warm welcome for any who stopped in to visit our farm and many of you greeted her as she would sunbathe on the front steps of our store. She was part of our farm & our family. We miss her.

DAIRY UPDATE
Framing is done. Roof is finished. Metal sheeting is going up. We won't have to work around the weather now that the outside is almost complete. Our goal is to have milk for sale by the end of February!

BULK ORDERS
Our next bulk orders will be available FEBRUARY 18 & 20. Deposits are due Saturday, January 31! Corriente & Angus beef, pork, lamb and Alaskan Salmon are all currently available. Do you want to try our meat before you make a big purchase? Stop by our farm store this weekend and pick up some separate cuts.

EAT HEALTHY!
Did you make a resolution to eat healthier this year? Let us help! We carry nutrient-dense organs meats. Bones for healthy broths. Antibiotic-free chicken. Grass-fed & finished beef. Pastured pork. Delicious eggs. Stop by the market to get what you need!

NEITHER RAIN, NOR SNOW, NOR SLEET, NOR HAIL....
We know this line is normally associated with the postal service, but today it definitely applies to the farmer. Even though it was a blizzard yesterday morning the animals still needed to be taken care of, so Shayn and our great farm-hands bundled up, got to work, and completed the daily chores.

Alaksan Salmon Is In! (November 2015 Update)

2015 SALMON IS IN!
We just received our shipment of fillets from this year's salmon run in Alaska. Wild-caught and flash frozen on site, this salmon is amazing! It's delicious and full of health benefits. We sell it two ways:

1. Farm Market: separate fillets for $15.00/pound
2. Bulk Order: 20 pound case for $260 ($13.00/pound)

THANKSGIVING HOURS
We will be closed for Thanksgiving. Our farm market schedule over the holiday will be as follows:

TUESDAY, NOV. 24 from 2:00-5:30pm
SATURDAY, NOV. 28 from 9:00am-12:00pm

DAIRY UPDATE
We have broken ground and are on our way! It's currently a mess of dirt and concrete forms as we get the foundation in place, but we're excited to see progress. Our estimated completion date is January.

BULK ORDERS
Our next bulk orders will be available DECEMBER 10 & 12. Deposits are due Saturday, November 21! This is the last chance for bulk ordering until February/March of next year. We are sold out of pork, but Corriente & Angus beef, lamb and Alaskan Salmon are all currently available. Do you want to try our meat before you make a big purchase? Stop by our farm store this weekend and pick up some separate cuts.

LATECOMER
Farmer Shayn recently made a trip to check on our mother cows and just as he pulled in he saw this little guy arrive into the world. He, his mom and the other cows were all under shelter that day as it was a little stormy outside. He came late in the year, but he'll stay dry and be just fine.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Our turkeys all received a pardon this year, so it will be a happy holiday for them. :) Remember to support local farms as you do your Thanksgiving meal shopping! And thank you for your continued support. We keep farming because you keep coming!

We're Building a Dairy! (October 2015 Update)

WE'RE STARTING A RAW MILK DAIRY!
At the September Planning Commission Meeting our dairy permit was APPROVED! A huge thank you to those who came to speak in support of us - we have the BEST customers! And a huge thank you also to West Jordan City for their continued support of local agriculture in our community. We just received our building permit and will begin construction immediately. Everything will be on site here at our farm and we will continue to update you as we go.

HALLOWEEN HOURS
We will be open normal hours on Saturday for Halloween: 9am-12pm. What do you need to feed your ghouls and goblins that night? Ground beef for chili? Cheese to top it? Stop in and get your All Hallow's Eve dinner essentials!

FARM TO SCHOOL
Did we visit any of your kids at school last month? Farmer Shayn and some of our farm friends participated in the "Farm to School" program through Jordan School District for three days. We visited Majestic Elementary, Oquirrh Elementary & Riverside Elementary, talking to the kids about where their food comes from and giving them the chance to get up close to our animals.

BULK ORDERS
Our next bulk orders will be available NOVEMBER 19 & 21. Deposits are due Saturday, October 31 (Halloween)! Corriente & Angus beef, pork, and Alaskan Salmon are all currently available. Do you want to try our meat before you make a big purchase? Stop by our farm store this weekend and pick up some separate cuts.

FARMER SHAYN GOES TO IOWA
Shayn spent some time in Iowa in October at the Waverley Midwest Horse sale. It's a huge draft horse & equipment auction and a great place for us to purchase equipment for our big guys to use. One of his last stops was the Amish Community of Bloomfield. Our friend, Ivan, builds, sells and repairs draft horse implements, some of which you can see in the photos. Our Amish friends are always willing to help and share their skills and advice with our horses.

(He passed thousands of acres of corn on his drive along I-80, much of it will probably be fed to commercial animals. He also drove by a cattle feed lot and saw acres and acres of cows with little room to move. Followed by a pig feed lot - not a single pig was outside but you could smell them miles away.  Small, local farms are the way to go!)

CAN YOU SPOT US?
We have a few new signs on our farm to make it easier for you find us. This one is on the west side of our barn, visible from 5600 West. Hopefully we'll be simple to find when you send family and friends our way!
